The Raven women's soccer team exploded with two second half goals on Wednesday night in their final regular season home game against Graceland University.
Graceland (9-5-3, 5-1-1 HAAC) tied the match during the 86th minute and then netted the game winner during the 97th minute to beat Benedictine (10-5-3, 2-4-1 HAAC) 3-2 in overtime.
Despite the loss, the Ravens will qualify for next week's conference postseason tournament as the No. 6 seed. Benedictine will travel to Fayette, Mo., on Tuesday, Nov. 8 for a 7 p.m. match against the Central Methodist University Eagles. The winner advances to the semifinals on Thursday, Nov. 10 against Graceland in Lamoni, Iowa.
Tuesday night, the Ravens held a 17-16 advantage in shots but the Yellowjackets held the edge in shots on goal at 8-7.
Graceland scored late in the first half to take a 1-0 leave over Benedictine into the half.
The Ravens tied the game during the 72nd minute on a goal from midfielder Melanie Petersen (Sr., Sioux Falls, S.D.). Forward Cassie Trandahl (Fr., Lindstrom, Minn.) was credited with the assist.
Benedictine took the lead for the first time during the 82nd minute when forward Ashley Washburn (Soph., Overland Park) netted her 14th goal of the season.
The Yellowjackets pulled the game back even during the 86th minute when an apparent handball in the box was not called and Graceland was able to push the ball past Raven keeper Carissa Gregory (Sr., Gretna, Neb.)
Gregory finished the night with five saves over 96 plus minutes in goal.
Washburn, Trandahl and forward Erin O'Brien (Jr., Overland Park) led the Ravens with two shots on goal each.
